No, I am not talking about those villagers or the YMCA, I am talking about my villagers!! My friends, the family I have chosen, the individuals (some I haven't even met yet), who will be the core to my children's childhood. Not everyone has a village, but everyone should. For us, the basic connection is homeschooling our children, but the friendships, memories, growth, and love are so much more than a basic educational choice.
We are a village because we come together as a community. Not just in times of need, which we do, but in our every day. We are a community when we give rides, when we have play dates, when we garden together, when we share our plans, when we cry over failures, when we celebrate success, when we drop off much needed coffee, when we drop off much needed wine. We are a community, from the youngest child, just born, to the grandparents who join us at the park.
There are thousands (possibly hundreds of thousands) of homeschoolers in this country, but our village is one of a kind. It is a community where you are loved and accepted exactly for who you are in this moment. It is a place where the most radical and the most traditional can laugh about their differences. It is a place to share, a place to seek comfort, a place to be authentic, a place to offer answers, and ask questions.
For us homeschooling isn't just the education plan you write, the way you learn math, or the time you spend during the day while you wait for life to start.
You are a VILLAGER if you feel the connection to our community 365 days a year, home or away, while learning or playing, whether you are the child or the parent! I love my village and everything it has allowed me to be and I can't wait to share more of our world here.
